Kratom tea is simple to make but there are a few essential steps to get the most out of it.
Most people take Kratom for its mood-enhancing effects whether it’s for energy or relaxation it helps people cope with the daily stresses in life. There are many ways to take it, but, one of the most overlooked is Kratom tea. Kratom tea offers many benefits by packing a bigger punch in an enjoyable beverage.
You get the most out of your Kratom tea when it’s heated to the correct temperature. The active alkaloids contained are stable at high temperatures, however, you do not want to pour boiling water over your Kratom leaves nor do you want to boil the water with the leaves in the pot.
Boil the water in a kettle or pot and let it cool down a bit before adding it to the Kratom in your cup.
ADD A SPLASH OF ACIDITY
Now for a bit of science. The alkaloids within Kratom contain nitrogen, and although the Kratom is stable in high temperatures they will start to degrade over a long period of time. When the alkaloids start to degrade, you will start losing potency from the tea. You can combat the degradation by adding an acidic component. The two most common ingredients for this are lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. This will add a bit of flavor to your drink.
IF YOU NEED TO ADD A SWEETENER
Many find the taste of Kratom to be unpalatable which makes the ‘toss and wash’ method difficult to get through. It is not easy to throw a few grams of Kratom powder into your mouth and wash it down with a drink.
When making your own Kratom tea you can add flair to help mask the pungent taste of the leaf. The most common ways are sugar, honey, or agave nectar. Many of us here at Golden Road Botanicals really like to add honey to our daily Teas. Other ingredients used to disguise the bitter flavor in addition to citrus are ginger and cinnamon.
Note: If the flavor is still too bitter or strong, you can dilute the tea by adding more water.
WHAT IS THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF KRATOM TO USE?
There is no generic answer to this question. Kratom effects and dosing are different for everybody and we recommend consulting your general physician concerning any questions related to your health.
If you are used to taking capsules or powder you will find that a hot beverage will enhance the effects you are used to. We always suggest to start low and work your way up or, as we call it, ‘Climb the ladder’. You can learn more about Kratom dosing in another article.
AS BOB MARLEY WOULD SAY, STIR IT UP.
When you are preparing the tea you will find that the powder will settle at the bottom of the cup, which will make the last few sips hard to get down. It is key to really stir it up and continue to stir it throughout drinking your beverage. Leaves are not water-soluble, which is why most of the leaves are kept in a tea bag or seeped which preparing.
